When the band No Doubt became popular, I had my own doubts that they'd stick around. Gwen Stefani was obviously hot, and their music was different from everything else pumping though the airwaves. But I honestly thought 'Tragic Kingdom' would rocket up the charts, then crash and burn, the band never to be heard from again, after the novelty had worn off. And I admit I was wrong. Even as the only female member of the group, Gwen fulfilled the teenage girls' need for an sexy feminist. Yes, we can flash some cleavage and still be independent and strong! She showed us that we could have the strength to stay out of mens' shadows, while not having to rub their faces in it and looking good doing it. She's a role model who shared with us what amazing things our creativity can do with the material from broken heart.
